Thanksgiving is a festival celebrating the fall harvest. In the United States, it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November every year, which falls on November 23rd (Thursday) this year. On that day, it is customary for all family members, even those who are usually apart, to gather together to eat and give thanks for the bounty of the harvest. The standard dish served on the table is roast turkey.
Union Square Tokyo will be serving a Thanksgiving course with a focus on domestic roast turkey. The turkeys are "Shimanto turkeys" raised in the Onomi area of Nakatosa Town, Kochi Prefecture, located in the headwaters of the Shimanto River. The turkeys are raised on a diet of locally grown rice and vegetables, and are fed with valley water that flows into the Shimanto River, making them high in protein, low in calories and fat, and juicy and satisfying to eat. The sauce that goes with the dish is apple gravy. The mild turkey is topped with sweet cranberry relish sauce, which allows you to enjoy a change of flavor. The soups and desserts are also made with seasonal ingredients, allowing you to enjoy the bounty of autumn throughout the course.
